Chemistry II
How is a Chemistry II grade calculated?
In your syllabus, you see this:
Grading Criteria: For each semester, you will be assessed on your understanding of the concepts presented in class and the quality of your interaction with class content. Homework assignments will be worth approximately 5 to 20 points, quizzes will be worth approximately 5 to 20 points, and tests will be worth approximately 30 to 50 points. You grade will be determined by your performance in the following four weighted categories:
Here is an example of how a weighted grade is determined. Hopefully this will help clarify how exactly how a student's grade is determined using a weighted scale.
Participation/Homework/Notebook - (hypothetical points earned/total points possible)
40/50 = 0.8
0.8 x 15 = 12 pts
Lab Work/Quizzes
47/60 = 0.7833333
0.783333 x 35 = 27.42 pts
Tests
120/145 = 0.828
0.828 x 40 = 33.1 pts
Final Exam
110/125 = 0.88
0.88 x 10 = 8.8
Final Grade Points = (P/HW/N) + (LW/Q) + (Tests) + (Final Exam)
Final Grade Points = 12 + 27.42 + 33.1 + 8.8 = 81.32 B-
